Old Drum Day Festival June 11, 2022
The Johnson County Missouri Historical Society and friends will host its annual event Old Drum Day Festival June 11, 2022 in Warrensburg, Missouri, the county seat for Johnson County.
Event is 11 am to 6 pm at the Old Courthouse Square at the corner of Main and Gay St.
The theme this year: “Resources of the County.” There will be demonstrations by local producers presenting a variety of products from lawnmowers to honey. We also will host a variety of local resource organizations sharing information on their services in our Community Outreach Corner.
Vendors, food trucks, artists and much more will present their wares for all to enjoy.
Bring a chair and come enjoy our beautiful part of the old town. Find a friend and stroll through the car show. Be entertained by local dance troops and choirs. Sit and sip on a cold drink while listening to live music and spoken art.
Bring your favorite four-legged friend to our dog show as
one lucky pup will be crowned OLD DRUM AMBASSADOR.
We hope you visit our museum located inside The Mary Smiser Heritage Library with its many new displays. The Historic Courthouse will be open and is where Senator Vest in 1870 first coined the phrase “Dog is man’s best friend.”
So come visit our historic little town and enjoy a day of something local.

The Old Courthouse (1838-1871) still stands, carefully restored, in its original location on Main Street. The period courtroom and upstairs offices pay tribute to the brave pioneers who built it. The Trial of Old Drum, where George Graham Vest’s Eulogy on the Dog, considered the Man’s Best Friend is the Dog Speech, was delivered, took place in this courthouse in 1870. https://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/education/olddrum/oldjohnsoncountycourthouse
